I currently reside in Eugene, OR and im facing the dilemma of heading south or north. (Im 23 and not in school at the moment) North entails moving to Seattle and settling into society with work, school, and all around furthering career stuff. South on the other hand... is my desire to hit the road. I am pondering selling most, if not all of my belongings. Living out of my backpack and bouncing around the west coast for an indefinite amount of time. I moved out here to Oregon from Omaha, NE this past fall and i recently watched the movie "Into the Wild". So im doing my homework and thinking about it quite often. If any one has any tips, ideas, suggestions, stories... im all ears! I do have hippie tendencies and my current destination ideas are Humboldt County, CA, San Francisco, and then Burning Man. I have a craving for spiritual evolution and better understanding of myself.

As you have the luxury of networking in advance, I bet you could find plenty of opportunities for work/intentional community/green living/etc. in northern CA and among the Burning Man community. Are you signed up for ePlaya at Burningman.com? Check out some of the other tribes around here, too, for some nifty options. :)

Fri, May 16, 2008 - 10:12 AMwell, only you know what is right for you but with the gypsy tenancies I'd go for option2 (and i am going for option 2 myself) but I'm heading north.. possibly or maybe south for a shot bit - Mammoth Lakes for some hikes then north...
Considering Missoula then across to Washington State (see Mt Rainier) then back south but am open to make a more settled move if a town feels like home along the way.

I bought my car so that I could sleep in the back whenever I traveled and would never have to worry where I was going to sleep. If you don't have a car, network network network.
